A rotation hoop knife splitting machine, in particular for leather, has an advancing device for the grinding discs (20, 21), with which the rotation hoop knife (2) is constantly or intermittently reground, which device comprises an adjusting spindle (33) which can be actuated by hand or by a servomotor. This adjusting spindle (33) is provided with two threads (38, 39), one of which is a left-handed thread and the other a right-handed thread. Arranged on each of these threads (38, 39) is a running nut which is connected longitudinally displaceably to a swivel arm (24, 25). The swivel arms (24, 25) are on one side mounted swivellably and on the other side bear grinding discs (20, 21) which, with the aid of this mechanism, can be advanced exactly symmetrically onto the cutting edge of the rotation hoop knife (2). If trimming discs (40, 41) are also provided, the grinding discs (20, 21) can also be moved into a trimming position, as a result of which a diameter of the two grinding discs (20, 21) which is always the same size can be guaranteed. The entire advancing device is suitable, in particular when the adjusting spindle (33) is motor-operated and its position can be determined by a position indicator, for automation.
