Viruses contained in a carrier medium, in particular blood, are inactivated by exposing the carrier medium together with the viruses to a high-frequency sound field of high energy density produced by an ultrasonic generator (15). The sound waves emitted by the ultrasonic generator (15) are focused by reflectors (16, 17) on to a membrane (14) through which the blood containing the viruses passes into the housing (1) in which the ultrasonic generator (15) is lodged. The viruses inactivated in this way are separated from the blood in a dialyzer (6). |
