PURPOSE:To uniformize a gap filled with liquid crystal by forming an overcoat film on a substrate where a color filter is formed, and then polishing the overcoat film and flattening the surface of a substrate. CONSTITUTION:A patterned transparent electrode 2b is formed on the glass substrate 1b and the color filter 5 is formed thereupon; and an overcoat agent is applied on it and then baked to form the overcoat film 4. Further, the overcoat film 4 is polished to obtain the flat overcoat film 4. A polyimide-oriented film 3b is formed on the obtained overcoat film 4 and rubbing is carried out; and the film 3b is stuck on the glass substrate 1a which have a transparent electrode 2a and a rubbed polyimide-oriented film 32 while a prescribed gap is left, and ferroelectric liquid crystal 6 is filled in the gap. Consequently, the thickness of the liquid crystal layer is uniformized. |
