PURPOSE:To enable a wider choice of dyes and enhance light resistance, by applying an ink comprising as a coloring agent a dye in the form of a uniformly dispersed non-aqueous emulsion to one side of a base to provide an ink layer, thereby producing a thermal transfer recording medium. CONSTITUTION:Ink components other than a dye are mixed in a solvent, and the dye is uniformly mixed into the non-aqueous mixed liquid, followed by dispersing. The uniformly dispersed liquid is applied to one side of a base to provide an ink layer, thereby obtaining a thermal transfer recording medium. Because the solubility parameters of the ink components are approximate to each other and the ink is emulsified by a dispersant, the ink is prepared with the dye dispersed uniformly and stably, without separation of the ink into two layers.
