<p>The stainless steel band (1) has parallel transverse grooves which enable it to be formed into a corrugated orientation. The band is fitted into the piston groove, inside the piston ring. The corrugations form separate chambers alternately between the piston and the band and the band and the piston ring. These chambers become pressurised and oppose the oscillation of the piston in the cylinder above, particularly during the power and and compressions strokes.</p> |
