<p>PURPOSE:To obtain uniform or nearly uniform optical outputs from each core by making circuit widths of all optical circuits except the circuit of the minimum optical transmission loss or all optical circuits on the light source side wider than those on the light emitting side and, at the same time, changing the widening degree of the circuit widths in such a way that the widening amount is increased as the light transmission loss of the circuit increases. CONSTITUTION:This optical waveguide is constituted in such a way that the optical circuits 1 of an organic high polymer material having a refractive index higher than that the constituent of a base film 3 are formed on the transparent plastic base film 3, the opened surfaces of the circuits 1 are covered with a protective layers 2 having a refractive index lower than that of the circuits 1 and the protective layers 2 and base film 3 are functioned as clad layers. Moreover, since the path lengths of the circuits on both sides of the waveguide are longer than those of the central circuits, the circuits on both sides are made wider in circuit width and circuits having smaller bent radii and longer path lengths are made larger in circuit widening amount by taking the bent radius and path length into account. Thus the light receiving quantity of each circuit is increased in accordance with the transmission loss quantity so that the circuit of the largest transmission loss quantity can have the largest light receiving quantity. Thus uniform output light can be obtained.</p> |
