Motor vehicle seat with seat element, back rest element which can fold over with respect to the seat element, bolt joint between seat element and back rest element and at least one back rest lock. The back rest lock has a rotating catch, an associated, fixed actuation bolt for the rotating catch and a swivelable ratchet. The ratchet rests in the upright desired position of the back rest with an engagement face on a counterengagement face of the rotating latch. In this way, the back rest is blocked against folding over. The ratchet can be disengaged in order to fold over the back rest. The ratchet has an auxiliary engagement face whose auxiliary engagement effect is opposed to the engagement effect of the first engagement face. The rotating latch has an auxiliary counter engagement face which blocks further movement of the back rest element when it passes beyond the desired direction. <IMAGE>
