985,929. Magnetic biasing and recording heads, arranging. AKAI ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. March 26, 1962, No. 11506/62. Heading G5R. A wide bias gap 12, Figs. 1b, 1c, the envelope of whose field (thin chain line) is arranged, preferably assymmetrically, opposite a second relatively narrow playback gap 15, is spaced on the opposite side of a tape 11, which is lapped around the guidesurface of the record/playback head 14 so as to emerge at an angle # to the intergap dimension D in the trailing region of the bias field which is spaced from the bias head where the field is of low intensity, providing improved high-frequency recording. In the Fig. 3 embodiment, an erase head 24, with known elevating means for multiple alternative function (Figs. 4, 5, not shown) is mounted on a platform 23 mounting a pivoted arm 27 supporting the bias head 29 either in operative spaced position (REC, Fig. 8) or widely spaced for playback or tapethreading (PLAY or STOP, Fig. 8) by a linkage operatively associated with the record/playback circuitry. The bias head may be mounted adjustably, (Figs. 9, 10, not shown) with an approach-limiting adjustable stop (Fig. 6, not shown) or may be provided with pads 34, 35, Fig. 7, leaving a pre-determined space in which the tape 11 may run. A guide means 48 (Fig. 3) serves to set the angle # (Figs. 1b, 1c) to the optimal value. |
