Apparatus for determining the proportion of pure gold in a gold alloy sample comprises an electrode made of an electrically conductive material other than gold, apparatus for dispensing a preselected quantity of an electrolyte solution into electrically conductive contact with the electrode and the gold alloy sample so as to form therebetween an electrical connection and means for measuring the electrical potential difference between the electrode and the sample and providing from the measured potential difference, an output reading of the proportion of pure gold contained by the sample. The electrolyte is preferably thickened to prevent leaks, and is dispensed from a cylinder with a movable piston and with the electrode arranged in the outlet from the cylinder. In an embodiment of the invention, the computed instantaneous clearance is used to control cooling air which is bled from the fan and ducted onto the casing, in order to attain a desired clearance. <IMAGE> |
