The cooker has an enclosure (1) with a solid base (2) and lateral walls (3) which are made of heat resisting material. The heating means (5) are parallel to the base, but separated from it, and cover at least the main part of its surface. The food is supported on a removable grid (10). On another grid (12) parallel to this, or in notches (14) in the top of the walls. Between the grids and the heating means there is a layer of material to diffuse and/or radiate the heat, such as volcanic rock, which is supported on a perforated plate (8).
