For the virtual multiplication, in a manner which is independent of technical illumination, of any plane pictures and its sections, printed or drawn by hand, in all their three-dimensional positions for the purpose of research and for studies of visual communication, as device which helps to design and shape wallpapers, cloth and decorations, for which purpose only complicated apparatuses are so far available, the viewing device is composed of a holding frame (3) and four congruent trapezoidal planar mirrors (1) which in each case have an aspect ratio (height-width ratio) of a = 1, b = 2 and h = 3 to form a hollow truncated pyramid (frustum of a pyramid) which is mirrored on the inside and which, when viewed in the vicinity of the optical axis, produces the virtual multiplication to a geometrically precise three-dimensional construction. So that the device can be easily displaced on the non-transparent picture original (positive), the device is provided with a sliding frame at the small opening and with a handle. In accordance with a further embodiment of the invention, when the device is delivered in individual parts, so that the assembly is made easier for the consumer, the four planar mirrors are provided with four set-squares to join them, by gluing, in an unmistakeable manner.
