PURPOSE:To increase contrast and to lower the driving voltage of the liquid crystal display element by dispersing a cholesteric liquid crystal in the form of particles into a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) layer held in place between two sheets of display electrodes and forming a shell consisting of a polymer film of a different kind around the particles. CONSTITUTION:The cholesteric liquid crystal is dispersed in the form of particles into the PVA layer held in place between two sheets of the display electrodes and the shell consisting of the polymer film of the kind different from the PVA is formed around the particles. The thickness of the polymer film is confined in the range from 0.01 to 1 micron. Namely, the liquid crystal display element contg. the cholesteric liquid crystal particles has large light scattering while voltage is not impressed thereto. The transparent and opaque contrast in on and off of the voltage, there, increases. The formation of the PVA layer contg. the liquid crystal particles to the thinner layer is possible. The driving voltage of the liquid crystal display element is thereby lowered. |
