A process for the continuous treatment of a liquid such as water with a view to purifying it by in-situ emission of metal ions from electrodes immersed in a stream of this liquid and raised to different electrical potentials. It is characterised in that the electrical voltage between the electrodes 215-216 and 234-235 is varied as a function of two parameters which are, respectively, the momentary electrical resistance of the liquid and the relative linear distance separating the surfaces of the electrodes present 215-216 and 234-235, in order that at any instant the electrical voltage between the electrodes 215-216 and 234-235 should be such that the current remains substantially constant and that the emission of metal ions in the liquid should remain substantially equal to a predetermined value. Preferably, a value of the electrical current is set and its voltage is varied as a function of the variations in the resistance existing between the electrodes 215-216 and 234-235. This process is applied to the purification and sterilisation of liquids such as water or milk and, in particular, to the treatment of water in swimming pools, doing away with any use of chemical products. <IMAGE> |
