The appts. measures arterial pressure by an external method. It consists of a device for measuring the instantaneous velocity of the blood in an artery and the mean blood circulation velocity using the Doppler effect. The device is fixed close to an artery in a region exempt from deformation due to articulation movements such as the temporal artery. A compact portable magnetic recorder registers signals from the measuring device over a long period. A correlation is established between the velocity of the blood and the arterial pressure of the subject using a computer which supplies a first or second degree relation corresponding to the best approximation of the correlation based on a number of measurements taken under various conditions to which the subject is submitted.
