The polyvinylbutyral is obtained by reaction of butyraldehyde with polyvinyl alcohol exhibiting a degree of hydrolysis higher than 95 % and a viscosity higher than 50 centipoises, in the presence of an acidic catalyst and of an emulsifier, the quantity of butyraldehyde being such that the hydroxyl content of the polyvinylbutyral obtained is between 22 and 26 %.
