PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of a repeater, by sharing a stand-by light source between up and down repeaters to use effectively the stand-by light source. CONSTITUTION:Optical signals from light sources 9 and 15 driven by light source driving circuits 5 and 8 are normally connected to up and down optical transmission paths f7 and f8 by synthesizers 20 and 21 and are used for up and down repeaters. When the light source 9 is faulty, a switching control circuit 17 detects it through a light source monitor 10 and controls a switching circuit 3 to connect the optical signal from a light source 11, which is driven by a light source driving circuit 6, to the up optical transmission path through an optical crossing circuit 19 and the synthesizer 20. Further, when the light source 11 becomes faulty, a light source 13 is used similarly instead. Light sources 11 and 13 are used as stand-by light sources for the light source 15 used for the down repeater. |
