The ring of a spindle of a spinning machine is reciprocated between two cam surfaces of a shape as specified precisely in the Specification and which are rotated, so that the limits of the reciprocation of the ring are cyclically varied to produce a package having a cylindrical central part, tapered ends, and a smooth varying curvature between the central part and the tapered ends. A hydraulic cylinder reciprocates one or more rings, either directly or through a bell crank lever, the cylinder being reversed by micro-switches which are attached to the ring and are actuated by direct or indirect contact with the cam surfaces. |
