PURPOSE:To improve combustibility of carbon particles at low temperatures, by causing a fire-resistant three-dimensional structure to carry, as catalyst components, fire-resistant inorganic oxides and oxides of one or more kinds of elements selected from Pd, Pr, Nd, Sm. CONSTITUTION:Fire-resistant inorganic oxides are crushed under wet conditions to form slurry, into which slurry a fire-resistant three-dimensional structure is dipped and dried at a temperature of 80-250 deg.C after excessive slurry has been removed, following which the structure is burnt at a temperature of 300-850 deg.C to provide a three-dimensional structure coated with fire-resistant inorganic oxides. And then the three-dimensional structure is dipped into a water solution containing a predetermined quantity of Pd compound and compound of one or more kinds of elements selected from a group of Pr, Nd and Sm, while excessive solution is removed therefrom. Then the structure is dried at a temperature of 80-250 deg.C and burnt thereafter at 300-850 deg.C to obtain a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas. |
