<p>An extrusion die for forming a cellular honeycomb structure from extrudable thermoplastic batch material. The extrusion die includes a die body (11) having inlet and outlet portions (11a, 11b), the inlet portion (11a) being integrally formed with a plurality of intersecting parallel partition walls (12) which extend axially inwardly in a predetermined depth to form a plurality of feed passageways (14a, 14b, 14c) in the form of a gridwork for feeding the batch material therethrough, and the outlet portion (11b) being formed with a plurality of annularly arranged core pins (13) integral with the intersecting innermost ends of the partition walls (14a, 14b, 14c) to form a plurality of discharge slots through which the batch material is extruded to form the matrix of a cellular honeycomb structure. The die body (11) is made of sintered partially stabilized zirconia to enhance durability of the die body without providing any layer of abrasion resistant material on the internal partition walls and core pins and to form a cellular honeycomb structure the internal walls surfaces of which are smoothly formed suitable for use in filters.</p> |
