<p>A reciprocating piston internal combustion engine (1) with means for controlling the output, comprises at least one working cylinder the head of which is connected to at least one electronically controlled intake valve (3) for air or mixture, an electronically controlled fuel intake device, and an electronically controlled ignition device (4). Also provided are a temperature sensor for measuring the temperature in the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine and a piston position indicator for continuously measuring the position of the piston as control parameters for an electronic adjustment and control device which can be programmed by means of a microprocessor and is connected via an electric power switch device to the fuel intake device and to the intake valve (3). The microprocessor of the adjusting and control device (20) is at least a one-chip processor with optical and electronic inputs and outputs. The microprocessor is arranged in an electromagnetically sealed housing and is connected via electrooptical pulse generators by means of beam waveguides to power switches and sensors for determining the position of the piston, the cylinder wall temperature and the pressure in the cylinder (2). In a multicylinder version of the internal combustion engine, at least two cylinders are arranged in pairs facing each other in a plane, and their pistons (8) act in counterphase via toothed rods (7) on a common free wheel clutch (10) and an electric motor/generator (11).</p> |
