The aluminium nitride sintered body contains addition of Al compounds with rare earth, alkaline earth and trasition metal. The sintered body comprises 80-99.98 wt.% of AlN, 0.01-18 wt.% of Al compounds with a rare earth metal, an alkaline earth metal or both, and 0.01-15 wt.% calculated as the oxide of a group IVa, Va, VIa, VIIa, or VIII transition metal. It is prepared by mixing Al nitride with the appropriate additive components, then moulding and sintering the mixture. AlN is used as a heat resistant material or a material for dissipating heat from semiconductor devices.
