In a gearbox for motor vehicles the gearshift sleeve (112) of a synchromesh geared coupling (136'), provided for the shifting of a transmission gear, is connected by way of a synchromesh ring (140) supported on a brake ring (136) to a change gear (102) of the said transmission gear also during the shifting of a second transmission gear lying in the same shift plane produced by a sliding-mesh gear (70) in order to obtain an adjustment of the instantaneous speed of the change gear to the speed of its bearing shaft (96) avoiding a direct drive connection. <IMAGE>
