Process for cleaning sludge-fouled packings in scrubber columns

In a process for cleaning sludge-fouled packings in scrubber columns for purifying gases, a solution is to be created by which continuous operation of a scrubber column is possible even when the initial layers have to be cleaned. This is achieved by the gas bypassing, during operation for the purpose of cleaning, at least the first packing layer in the direction of flow of the gas, bottom in direction of gravity, via a bypass and then this packing layer being impinged by a cleaning agent. <IMAGE>
