1,193,136. Making liquid cooled structural elements. BOLKOW G.m.b.H. 29 Nov., 1967 [15 Dec., 1966], No. 54410/67. Heading B3A. [Also in Divisions C7, F1 and F3] A method of making a structural element for use as a liquid cooled rocket combustion chamber, a heat shield or a missile nose cone, includes arranging a plurality of similar components in a required formation to provide the tubes, filling the tubes and/or any spaces between the tubes with a material having an electrically conductive surface, applying at least one coating over exposed surfaces of the material and parts of the components by an electrolytically deposited material, to secure the components together, and removing the material from the element. The tubes used in making the components may be of trapezoidal, rectangular, circular or oval cross-section. Alternatively the tubes may be formed by channelsection strips with their open sides closed either by the applied layer or by an adjacent strip, or spaced flat strips may be used with the electrolytically applied layer bridging the gaps between them. A rocket combustion chamber is made by bonding together plurality of tubes 3 by an electrolytically applied layer 5 which may be reinforced by steel strips 6. |
