PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a Q-switch element and reduce a thermal influence upon the saturable absorber of the Q-switch element by constituting the Q-switch element with the saturable absorber composed of a plastic film and two transparent thermal conductors. CONSTITUTION:A laser medium 1 is made of Nd:YAG, Nd:glass or the like which contains active ions. A total reflective mirror 2 and an output mirror 3 are laser resonator mirrors. A saturable absorber 4 is composed of a plastic film. Transparent thermal conductors 5 are composed of plates made of material such as sapphire or diamond which has a high thermal conductivity and a high transmittance for a laser oscillation wavelength. The saturable absorber 4 is sandwiched by the transparent thermal conductors 5 and the surfaces of the plastic film are brought into contact sufficiently tightly with the surfaces of the transparent thermal conductors 5 and the surfaces of the plastic film are kept flat. The heat produced in the saturable absorber 4 at the time of the laser oscillation is quickly removed by the transparent thermal conductors 5 so that the thermal deformation of the saturable absorber 4 can be avoided. With this constitution, the repetition of the laser oscillation can be greatly increased. |
