PURPOSE:To prevent an object from being protruded from a screen without zooming through manual operation by a photographer, and to improve operability by detecting in which area in the photographic screen the object exists, and then setting a focal distance based on the detected result so that the object is invariably in the screen. CONSTITUTION:The detecting means 102 detects, in which area on the photographic screen the object exists, and a deciding means 103 decides, based on the detected result, whether or not the object is out of the photographic screen at an intended focal distance. A focal distance setting means 104 adjusts the focal distance when the decision is made that the object is out of the intended photographic screen, it sets the intended focal distance when the decision is made that it is in the screen. Thus, the object is prevented from being protruded from the screen without zooming through the manual operation by the photographer; operability is improved and also photographing is performed at fixed magnification even if the object is plural persons. |
