PURPOSE: To heighten the accuracy of detecting the acceleration or deceleration beyond a designated value by transmitting the motion of a sensor lever having a weight on the upper end supported on a car body side member in such a manner as to freely turn through a lever means to a locking lever for locking a spring-loaded tie rod. CONSTITUTION: In a belt tensioner for a safety belt of an automobile, a spring- loaded tie rod 12 has a notch 39 engageable with a hook part 40 of a locking lever 41, and the locking lever 41 is so constructed that a protruding part 91 is engaged with the end part of a short arm 92 of a double-arm transmission lever 93 to be held, and the free end part 96 of a long arm 95 of the transmission lever 93 is engaged with a holding control cam 97 provided on the upper part of a sensor lever 98 to be held. The sensor lever 98 is turnably supported on the car body side member in such by a pin 99, and a weight 100 is integrated with the upper end, whereby when the acceleration or deceleration speed beyond designated is applied to the vehicle, the engagement of the locking lever 41 with the notch 39 is released through the transmission lever 93. |
