PURPOSE:To reduce write power applied to a thin film magnetic head, and a calorific value, and to obtain a high reliability head, by containing an information recording thin film magnetic head in a gap of a bias magnetic head for generating a bias magnetic flux being below anti-magnetic force of a magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A thin film magnetic head 5 is fixed to a gap part 3 between magnetic poles 2 of a U-shaped bias magnetic head 1 by a non-magnetic material 6. As for the magnetic head 5, a magnetic material 8 and a spiral coil 9 are formed through an insulating layer 10 on the surface of a nonmagnetic substance substrate 7. As for this thin film magnetic head 5 and the bias magnetic head 1, the respective tip faces and magnetizing directions are made to coincide with each other and to bring into contact with a magnetic recording medium. A direct current is supplied to a coil 4 so that a magnetic flux being below anti-magnetic force of a magnetic tape operates on the bias magnetic head 1, and in this state, a pulse current of the same magnetizing direction as the direction of the generated magnetic field of the head 1 is supplied to a coil of the head 5, and write is executed to the magnetic tape. In this way, a current supplied to the head 5 can be reduced, therefore, the number of coil windings of the head 5 is decreased, the structure is simplified, power consumption is reduced, and the calorific value is made small. |
