<p>PURPOSE:To obtain an orienting film which orients stably liq. crystal molecules over a long time by rubbing a specified resin film. CONSTITUTION:A soln. of photosetting cyclic polybutadiene represented by the formula is dropped on the surfaces of substrates 1, 2 and dried. Since the soln. is a negative type resist, parts of a liq. crystal cell except the display regions (the parts bounded by a sealant 5) are covered with a light shielding mask, and light is irradiated from a mercury lamp. Development is then carried out to form polybutadiene resin films, and the films are chemically stabilized by heat treatment. By rubbing the surfaces of the resin films with nylon cloth or the like, microgrooves are cut to form orienting films 4. Since the films contain cyclic polybutadiene resin as the principal component, they have superior chemical stability, are proof against about 400 deg.C high temp., and are well matched with a liq. crystal substance.</p> |
