: The invention relates to apparatus particularly intended for treating non-ferrous metal drosses in order to recover the free metal contained therein. The apparatus is a scraper device for a rotary furnace having a refractory lining and containing a solid residue. The device comprises a scraper tool suitable for introduction into the furnace and for scraping at least some of the solid residue from the lining when the furnace is rotated. The tool is supported by a shaft of sufficient length to allow the tool to be fully inserted into the furnace. A support mechanism is provided for the shaft to enable the tool to be raised and lowered. A guide mechanism is provided to permit the tool to be moved forwards and backwards while resisting lateral motion.
