1292364 Projectile fuzes JUNGHANS GmbH GEB 8 May 1970 [10 May 1969] 22472/70 Heading F3A A fuze for a non-spin projectile such as a rocket comprises a pivoted primer carrier 13, Fig. 1, held at safe by engagement of a finger 18a of a non-rotatable inertia weight 16 in a groove 13b in the carrier, the inertia weight being supported by fingers 18a and 18b on one end of a sleeve 20 provided with a plurality of longitudinal slots 20a, the sleeve, on acceleration of the projectile, being rotated by an inertia weight 23 so that the fingers 18a and 18b drop into the slots 20a to free the weight 16 and subsequently the carrier for rotation into the armed position. As the weight 16 sets back, owing to the acceleration forces, the finger 18a travels to the bottom of the groove 13b, Fig. 7, whereupon the carrier 13 is rotated by a spring so that the finger 18a is aligned with the other arm of the groove. A spring thenlifts the weight 16 and when the finger 18a is aligned with a lateral portion 13c of the groove the carrier 13 is rotated by a spring to the armed position. Upward and downward movement of the weight 16 is delayed by engagement of a pin 16a, Fig. 2, in a helical groove 24a in a shaft 24. As the weight moves, the shaft is caused to rotate under the delaying action of an escapement mechanism 25-28, Fig. 7. The inertia weight 23 for rotating the sleeve 20 has a conical portion which acts on a lever 21, Fig. 1, the lever is engaged in one of the slots 20a and causes the sleeve to rotate as the weight 23 sets back. |
