PURPOSE:To automatically select or set transmission characteristics in compliance with the picture quality of a picture to be transmitted so as to improve the operability of the title device by constituting the device in such a way that the picture quality of picture signals is discriminated and the transmission characteristics of a transmitting means are controlled in accordance with discriminated results. CONSTITUTION:In case a picture recorded on a magnetic disk 10 is transmitted through a telephone line, a frequency discrimination circuit 30 discriminates the level of the recording frequency of the picture from the output of a reproduction amplifier 26 and a microcomputer 24 arbitrarily sets a transmission carrier in an NCU 40 in response to the discriminated result. Accordingly, the NCU 40 transmits the picture signal with a transmission carrier corresponding to the recording frequency of the disk 10. When picture signals are received, on the contrary, the NCU 40 transfers a transmission carrier to a carrier discrimination circuit 42 upon receiving the carrier from the telephone line. The circuit 42 discriminates the level of the carrier and impresses the discriminated result upon the microcomputer 24. The microcomputer 24 changes the filter constant in the NCU 40 and sets the NCU 40 to a receiving state suitable to the carrier frequency. |
