For dispersing gas, in particular in small quantities, into a flowable reactant for the production of foam, in particular polyurethane foam, a gassing vessel (2) is used in on-line operation, to which vessel the ungassed reactant is fed just below the level (16) above which a gas cushion (17) is maintained, gas being sucked in from this gas cushion (17) by means of a stirrer (5) and dispersed into the reactant in the lower region of the gassing vessel (2), and the gassed reactant being carried away below the stirrer (5), a three-layer regime being maintained in the gassing vessel (2), in which the ungassed layer (19) separates the gassed layer (21) from the gas cushion (17). ……
