Guest-host liquid crystal display element having particularly short switching times, especially at low temperatures, are achieved in that the nematic liquid crystal composition satisfies the following conditions: - nematic phase range of at least 60@C, - viscosity of 40 mPa.s or less, and - dielectric anisotropy DELTA epsilon < -1.0. 1,4-disubstituted 2,3-difluorobenzene compounds are preferably used.
