Integral furnishing cushions are made by first slitting a moulded flexible polyurethane foam sheet having a moulding skin on the top and bottom faces which is impermeable to a polyurethane foaming mixt. but is permeable to air, gases and water vapour, into two halves down the middle to yield two foam sheets each having the skin as one face and an open celled, totally air permeable foam as the other face. Each of the foam sheets is bonded to a cushion covering fabric with the open celled foam side contacting fabric, and the fabric/foam composite sheet is used to line a cushion mould with the skin uppermost to act as vapour-permeable barrier layer. A polyurethane foaming mixt. is introduced into the mould and the mould cover positioned. The foaming mixt. spreads over the exposed skin layer in the mould and expands to fill the mould, after which it is allowed to gel and polymerise before demoulding the finished cushion. USE/ADVANTAGE - Process allows integral furnishing cushions to be made without penetration of the foaming mix into the furnishing fabric, and without hardening of the cushion by skinning of the foam mix due to condensn., as occurs when using vapour-impermeable barrier sheets on the fabric layer.
