Method and apparatus for cleaning lubricating oil in a gearing (1) with pressure lubrication of bearings (12, 52, 15) and gears (13, 14), wherein a lubricant pump (2) conveys lubricating oil from a container (21), preferably from the sump of the gearing (1). In a shaft of the gearing, preferably the input shaft (4), or in connection with a shaft, the lubricant channel is widened to form a rotational space (3), so that the flow rate is greatly reduced and the lubricating oil assumes the rotation of the circumferential surface (31) of this space. As a result, the dirt parts are thrown onto the circumferential surface (31) and form a firmly adhering film there. At the centre (32) of the rotational space (3), the cleaned lubricating oil is carried away via the discharge pipe (41) and is supplied in a known manner to the consumers, e.g. the bearings (12, 15, 52), via a bore (53) in the main shaft (5). <IMAGE>
