PURPOSE:To execute optical multiplexing/demultiplexing functions with one multifiber optical multiplexer/demultiplexer so that the compact and inexpensive optical multiplexer/demultiplexer is obtd. by disposing plural substrates for branch paths on one common substrate for a main path. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers 2, 3 for the main path which are parallel with each other in the longitudinal direction are provided on the front face of the common substrate 1 for the main path and plural filters 4, 5 for the main path which are different in characteristics from each other are inserted and fixed into the grooves of the prescribed angles directed from the front face to the rear face across the above-mentioned fibers. In addition, plural optical fibers 6, 7 which are parallel with each other in the longitudinal direction are disposed and fixed to the front faces of the plural substrates 12, 13 for the branch paths and filters 10, 11 for the branch paths which are directed from the front faces to the rear faces thereof across said fibers and are different in the characteristics in accordance with the prescribed angles of the common substrate 1 for the main path are inserted and fixed to the substrates. The characteristics of the filters 10, 11 for the branch paths are corresponded to the characteristics of the filters 4, 5 for the main path and the substrates 12, 13 for the branch paths are joined and fixed to the common substrate 1 for the main path by aligning the optical axes of the respective filters 10, 11 for the branch paths to the filters 4, 5 for the main paths. The optical multiplexing/demultiplexing functions of multiple wavelengths are thus executed by a piece of the multifiber optical multiplexer/demultiplexer and the compact and inexpensive optical multiplexer/demultiplexer is obtd. |
