The invention relates to an extrusion press, having a receiver with a through bore for the heated metal block to be pressed and two hollow plungers which penetrate simultaneously into the two openings of the receiver and are each equipped with a die, during which process strands are pressed out on both sides. The object of the invention consists in overcoming system-related structural difficulties and opening up a wide range of applications for the extrusion presses of this design. To achieve this object, according to the invention the receiver is subdivided along its length into two halves which can be separated from one another to introduce a block to be pressed and to remove a pressing residue and which are interconnected during the pressing operation. Apart from a reduction in overall length, by reducing the length of one hollow plunger the risk of it bending is considerably reduced, so that greater block lengths or amounts of material requiring higher forming forces can be processed, so that the efficiency of the pressing operation and the range of applications of the presses can be considerably improved. <IMAGE>
