In the fitted state, known oil scraper rings twist positively. This results in a worn ring nose edge which adversely affects the oil consumption of the internal combustion engine. The new oil scraper ring is intended to ensure an oil scraper effect over a long operating time. The oil scraper ring (1) fulfils this requirement in that a cross-sectional obstruction (4, 10, 10') is arranged on the side remote from the combustion chamber, the cross-sectional area of which is greater than the recess cross-sectional area forming the nose (11) and that the running surface (2) of the oil scraper ring (1) is of conical design. The oil scraper ring is especially suitable for internal combustion engines. <IMAGE>
