PURPOSE:To obtain a ferroelectric liquid crystal panel interrupting easy formation of twist structure and having high memory properly and high display quality by forming a substrate changing its polarity in accordance with upper and lower bases on oblique evaporation films to make the polarity of the surface of the upper base different from that of the lower base. CONSTITUTION:The title panel has upper and lower polarizing plates 1, upper and lower glass bases 2, transparent electrode layers 3, orientation film layers 4 based upon oblique evaporation, a layer 5 changed at its surface polarity by nylon 12, a ferroelectric liquid crystal layer 6, and spacers 7 for fixing a distance between the opposite bases. Namely, polarity on the surfaces of the upper and lower bases is changed by forming the substrate changing its polarity in accordance with the upper and lower bases on the oblique evaporation films 4 and the direction of spontaneous polarization to the upper base is inversed to that of the lower base by changing the spontaneous polarization of ferroelectric liquid crystal molecules and mutual action on the surfaces of the upper and lower bases. Consequently, the appearance of a twisted state can be suppressed and the memory effect can be increased. |
