PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal head having good reproducibility of dots and a long life by increasing the thickness of the center of a heat generating area of a heat generating resistor, and reducing the area resistance of the center of the area lower than that of the end of the area. CONSTITUTION:Second heat generating resistors 5 are so arranged on the surface 2a of an insulating substrate 2 as to be superposed on a first heat generating resistor 4 over a glass glazed layer 3, and a common electrode 6 and individual electrodes 7 are formed. The electrode 6 is provided in contact with the edge 2b, the end 6a is superposed on the end 5a of the resistor 5, and the ends 7b of the electrodes 7 are superposed on the other ends 5b of the resistor 5. When a voltage is applied between the electrode 5 and the electrodes 7, a current flows to the resistors 4, 5, and a heat generating area 8 is heated. In this case, since the center 8a of the area 8 is superposed with the resistors 4, 5, its area resistance is reduced from the end 8b of the area. Accordingly, the voltage drop of the end 8b is increased, and the quantity of heat generated in this part is increased, thereby obtaining substantially uniform temperature distribution in the area 8. |
