<p>PURPOSE:To improve affinity for microorganisms, adhesion, strength and durability of substrate for microorganism membrane by coating nonwoven fabric consisting of specific organic synthetic fiber monofilament with an aqueous solution of PVA, gelatinizing, freezing and thawing. CONSTITUTION:Nonwoven fabric consisting of organic synthetic fiber monofilament (e.g., PVA fiber) having 1-5,000denier fineness, 3-20cm fiber length and >=3g/denier fiber strength and >=0.005g/cm<3> bulk density is coated with 1-500wt.% mixed aqueous solution of 3-40wt.% PVA having >=1,000 polymerization degree and >=98.5% saponification degree, 0.2-4wt.% water-soluble polymer saccharide (e.g., sodium alginate) having ability of gelatinizing by coming into contact with at least one polyvalent metallic ion (e.g., Ca) and optionally a microorganism and immersed in an aqueous solution containing 0.05-1.0mol/l polyvalent metallic ion-containing compound (e.g., CaCl2) to gelatinize the aqueous solution. Then nonwoven fabric is maintained at <=-5 deg.C for >=2hours, frozen, allowed to stand in a temperature range not to exert bad influence on the microorganism and thawed.</p> |
