PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound in high yield by conducting the liquid- phase dehydrogenation reaction of an oxidation product of cyclohexene in the presence of a solid catalyst including a platinum group metal supported and a hydrogen acceptor. CONSTITUTION:An oxidation product of cyclohexene is dehydrogenated in liquid phase in the presence of a solid catalyst supporting a platinum group metal, preferably a catalyst in which at least one selected from palladium, ruthenium and platinum is supported on activated carbon and/or hydrotalcite, using a hydrogen acceptor, preferably an olefinic compound having a double bond in the benzyl position of an aromatic ring or another olefinic compound bearing a double bond adjacent to a carbonyl group, preferably at 200-280 deg.C. Thus, the dehydration of cyclohexenol is inhibited and phenol is produced from the oxidation product in high yield with industrial advantage. |
