A defoaming, deaeirating and drainage aid composition is formed by dispersing 3 to 35 parts by weight of a finely divided silica into a mixture consisting of 55 to 93 parts of an oil having a viscosity varying from 20 to 200 S.U.S. at 100‹F., and 4 to 20 parts of one or more alkoxysilicon chlorides having the formula C1 m Si (OR) n wherein m represents 1 or 2, n represents 2 or 3 and R is a straight or branched chain alkyl group containing from 2 to 22 carbon atoms, and then making the silica hydraphobic by heating the resulting mixture under reduced pressure until substantially all the hydrogen chloride is removed therefrom. An alkylene oxide may finally be added to react with any residual hydrogen chloride. The oil may be mineral seal oil, kerosene, halogenated hydrocarbons, diisooctyl azelate, hexa-2-ethyl butoxy di-siloxane, or polyalkylene glycols. The silica may be precipitated, fumed, arc, or aerogel silica and the compounds C1 m Si(OR) n may be bis-(decyloxy) silicon chloride or tris-(decyloxy) silicon chloride.</p> |
