A rail vehicle is propelled by linear induction motors wherein the rails 1 form the armatures and inductors 2 are connected with longitudinal members 4 extending between the bogie axles 5, the inductor for each rail being formed from a series of individual inductors attached to a support member 6 having flanges 7 by which it bears via resilient mountings 8 on longitudinal webs 41, 42 connected to the members 4 and cross member 13 by further resilient mountings 11, 12. Compression of mountings 8 is limited by abutments 10. In a modification flanges 7 and supporting faces 9 are inclined to the longitudinal plane of symmetry of the inductor. The inductors may be connected with the vehicle frame 19 by resilient cables or rods 16 to transmit the driving and braking forces. |
