Heating apparatus for both space heating and tap water comprises a water jacket 1 surrounding a combustion chamber 2, having a downwardly acting burner 3 for liquid or gaseous fuel, a tap water heater 4 communicating with the jacket through pipes 14, 15, and a diaphragm expansion tank 5 connected through a pipe-line 16 to the jacket 1. The heater 4 has a cold water inlet 6 and a tap water outlet 7. The jacket has pipe-line connections 10, 10a, 11, 11a, which are connected to a central heating installation (not shown), and a pump and mixing device 9. This device mixes some of the water from the pipeline 11 with that in pipe-line 10, the remainder passing via pipe-line 11a to the jacket. The pipeline 15 also leads through the device 9, a changeover valve controlled by a tap water heater thermostat connecting either pipe-line 11 or 15 to the suction side of the pump. Forced circulation of heating water is thus facilitated when the heater 4 is required. The apparatus is enclosed within a casing 12 carrying an electrical control device 13 for the burner, pump and thermostat. |
