PURPOSE:To obtain the medium which allows easy reading and has high reading accuracy and erasing efficiency by specifying the ratio of Sb and Te of an Sb-Te alloy forming a recording layer to a specific range. CONSTITUTION:The ratio of the Sb and Te of the Sb-Te alloy forming the recording layer is specified to the 61:39-52:48 range by number of atoms. The writing even with a small laser power is thereby enabled. Further, the speed and contrast of the transition of the amorphous state and the crystal state is large and, therefore, the medium having the high reading speed and erasing efficiency is obtd.
