The controller is associated with an irrigation machine of the type which is mobile in translation and has a reel onto which the water delivery hose is wound. The set water quantity to be delivered to an irrigation zone is held constant regardless of the water flow rate. A flow meter (24) measures the water flow rate and this measure is used to control the operation of the water turbine (12) driving the irrigation device over the terrain. The turbine speed is measured by a tachometer (18) and the length of hose unwound from the reel by an up-down impulse counter. The measured data is processed by an electronic computation circuit (20) which controls the operation of impulse solenoid valves which are operated as required to regulate bypass of water round the drive turbine. ADVANTAGE - Provides automatic regulation of speed of drive turbine in conjunction with measurement of flow rate to ensure ven watering of entire sweep of irrigation machine.
