The recoil spring housing includes two end plates (10,10') lying parallel on a shaft (16). A number of spacing bars (26) link the two end plates together in order to form a drum with open sides. Each spacing bar includes an inwardly projecting tab (28). This is able to engage an aperture (30) in the end of a flat spring (20) which is introduced into the cylinder in order to form a spiral spring. As the spring is introduced into the cylinder, the aperture automatically engages the tab. USE - For balancing weight of metal curtain or shutters which may be rolled up and down either by hand, or by electric motor.
