1276072 Gauging and sorting ANCHOR HOCKING CORP 31 Dec 1970 [4 May 1970] 62057/70 Heading G1M A feed chute for container caps includes a go/no go gauge 4 which allows correct caps to pass but retains improperly formed caps, a pneumatic piston-cylinder unit 5 for moving the gauge out of the chute when it captures an improperly formed cap and a pneumatic piston-cylinder unit 9 for pushing the imperfect cap from the gauge. Sensors 7 and 8 are provided for sensing caps either side of the gauge and the absence of caps at sensor 8 closes a relay 34 which operates a solenoid 35 which in turn operates a control valve 37 to actuate pneumatic unit 5 and push the gauge 4 from the chute. When the piston 12 of unit 5 reaches its fully extended position it operates a puff valve 40 which sends a puff of air to an impulse relay 42 and control valve 43 of pneumatic unit 9 which causes piston 10 to be extended to reject the imperfect container from gauge 4. When piston 10 reaches its extended position it operates puff valve 45 which causes control valve 43 to retract piston 10. When piston 10 reaches its fully retracted position it engages puff valve 46 which causes control valve 37 to retract the piston of unit 5. When the gauge moves out of the chute a member 27 is caused to engage the caps upstream of the gauge by means of a cam on the gauge Fig.5 (not shown) to prevent caps reaching the gauging position during rejection of an imperfect cap. |
